About the Item

A fine George III Mustard Pot made in London 1781 by Robert Hennell. The Mustard Pot is modelled in the Drum form, with a spreading reeded base and beaded rim. The sides are pierced with horizontal vitruvian scroll bands and Neo Classical urns in ovals. The sides are, in addition, engraved with floral garlands, prick dot bands and roundels. The hinged cover is engraved with a family Crest and an outer border of prick dot designs. This fine example has a scroll handle and fan shaped pierced thumb piece. The Mustard Pot has a blue glass liner and is in excellent condition, with a full set of marks on the base and a sterling mark on the underside of the cover. Additional information: Height, to the top of the thumb piece: 2.9 inches, 7.25 cm. Base Diameter: 2.5 inches, 6.25 cm.

This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver mustard pot has a plain circular form. The body of the mustard pot is encompassed with an exceptional and impressive band of bright cut engraved interlacing decoration accented with a simplified leaf motif. The decoration to the body incorporates a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting an eagle rousant, with wings addorsed and inverted, collared and chained, with an unidentified charge. The upper and lower rims of this fine example of Victorian silverware are ornamented with an impressive applied bead decorated border. This mustard pot is fitted with a domed hinged hallmarked cover encircled with an exceptional interlacing eight-pointed star motif with a central floral design.
