About the Item
French set of twelve faience plates, made in the manufacture of "Stafforshire" in the 19th century.
The Staffordshire ceramics come from a tradition of artisanal manufacture dating back to the early 17th century. The region was rich in clay and coal, as well as salt and lead. Over the centuries, this craft became an industry. Statuettes such as Staffordshire plates are regularly sold at Christie’s.
