Silver Cup, Peru, 18th Century

About the Item

Bernegal silver. Peru, 17th century. Trembling or catavinos made of silver in its color, handles in the form of "that" (or "ce" with lower end) with scrolls and masks, and the rest of the piece smooth. Bernegales and scrapiers were more common typologies in 17th century Spanish silverware (although in the 18th century they were still popular, especially in centers away from the main creative nuclei). In the case of this piece it is the handles that could indicate an American manufacture, although there are similar cases that are thought to have been made in the Iberian Peninsula. Compare this piece with works such as Antonio Sánchez's scrapie, dated between 1655 and 1689 of the Convento de Madres Clarisas de Villacastín, others preserved in the National Museum of Decorative Arts in Madrid, etc. Weight: 270 gr." Size: 19.5 x 14 x 8 cms.
