Early 20th century silver table bell, fitted with a lovely hardwood handle and a bell clanger that makes a delightful sound. The flared cast sterling silver body is encircled with moulded and applied girdles and it was originally retailed by Howard & Co. Traditionally, silver table bells were used to call attention to staff during a formal dinner. In a less formal setting, table bells, also known as dinner bells or desk bells, can summon families to the dining room purely to indicate that dinner is ready.
