George III Silver Beer or Water Jug

About the Item

In excellent and original condition, this is a Classic, heavy-gauge antique George III silver beer jug in a design that personifies the style of the period at the end of the 18th century. Of baluster form and with scroll and leaf mounts, the stepped spreading circular base has a slant gadroon border and the applied moulded rim mount extends around the open spout. Although heavy gauge, it is still comfortable to use with ease. It weighs 26.5 troy oz (825g).

    A fine and impressive antique George III English sterling silver helmet shaped creamer made by Peter and Ann Bateman, an addition to our Georgian silver teaware collection. This fine antique George III sterling silver cream jug has a helmet shaped form onto a pedestal with a circular spreading foot and plain square base. The upper portion of the body is ornamented with a broad band of bright cut engraved irregular undulating decoration. The body of the jug is embellished with a pin struck and bright cut engraved decorated shield shaped vacant cartouche suspended from a stylized ribbon design. The rim of the body is encompassed with an applied reed decorated border.
