About the Item

Glass carafe designed by Michael Bang in 1989 for the famous Danish glassware manufacturer Holmegaard. The carafe is made of clear, transparent glass, while the stopper at the top is made of blue-tinted glass and depicts a charming little stylised bird. A beautiful decorative and practical object that will look great on your table. The Holmegaard factory was founded in 1823 in Næstved, south-west of Copenhagen, and began by manufacturing green and brown bottles, before turning its attention to art glass. Count Christian Conrad Danneskiold-Samsøe, who had purchased the Holmegaard estate, realised that the local peat could be used as fuel. He therefore requested permission from the King of Denmark to set up a glassworks there, but died before receiving a reply... It was not until 1825 that his wife, Countess Henriette Danneskiold-Samsøe, received a favourable response from the king. Although a widow and mother of six children, she decided to continue her husband's project and launched the Holmegaard glassworks (Holmegaard Glasværk), which remained in production until 2008.

By Per Lutken for Holmegaard
Located in SAINT-YRIEIX-SUR-CHARENTE, FR
Glass vase (H:25cm), design by Per Lutken (1916-1998), published by the famous Danish glassworks Holmegaard. The bluish tone, the thickness of the glass visible at the top is an integral part of the design of this vase, dated and signed underneath. Per Lutken was a famous Danish glassmaker who joined Holmegaard in 1942 and worked there until his death. He contributed to the revival of the glass industry, which was running out of steam at the time, by bringing his pure and timeless style, which has become a classic of Scandinavian design and can be found in many Danish and Swedish homes. He was very productive and for decades created numerous models that made the glassware industry successful in Denmark and around the world. The Holmegaard factory was founded in 1823 in Næstved, southwest of Copenhagen, and started its activity by manufacturing green and brown bottles, and later turned to art glass. Count Christian Conrad Danneskiold-Samsøe bought the Holmegaard estate and realised that the local peat could be used as fuel. He asked the Danish king...
