Gold Leaf Glass Pitcher Attb. to Dan Mirer, American Studio Art Glass 1999

About the Item

Vintage art glass pitcher features an abstract gold decor on the clear glass background; the placement of the gold leaf accentuates the soft, organic curves of the pitcher. The pitcher is signed and dated by the artist on the bottom; while it's hard to read the signature, the piece is consistent with the series of gold leaf glasses and pitchers by Dan Mirer. He's producing it for his studio that he founded in 2004, marking it with the studio's mark, while the pitcher was created in 1999, predating his studio work. In his line of drinkware, 23k gold and 12k white gold leaf is rolled on and fused to the glass bubble while the vessel is being blown. A delicate folding and expanding of the leaves make each piece unique. Dan Mirer began his education at age 16, attending the Rochester Institute of Technology (AAS). He continued to study glass at Alfred University (BFA) and the Pukeberg School of Design, Sweden. A resident of Corning, N.Y., Mirer has been an independent designer/maker since 2004. He creates a range of work including tableware and home décor, elegantly shaped vessels, including a unique series of functional and decorative hand-blown bottles. In the past few years, Mirer has been involved with The Corning Museum of Glass; in its Hot Glass programs as well as The Studio’s Artist-in-Residence program. He has taught at Alfred University, Pilchuck Glass School, Penland School of Crafts, the Toledo Museum of Art, and The Corning Museum of Glass. His work has been shown at UrbanGlass (Brooklyn, N.Y.), the National Bottle Museum (Ballston Spa, N.Y.), and in the Smithsonian Craft Show, among other venues. He is represented by multiple galleries nationwide, including Shops at the Corning Museum of Glass.
