About the Item

Nice example of an ironstone pitcher, hand painted from copper plate transfers in the Chinese Manduran pattern depicting peacocks and abundant floral decoration in a Famille Rose style (see image). Design was made popular by Mason's company, albeit, this pitcher was manufactured by W &. J Butterfield of Tunstall, England in the northern most district of what is now Stoke-On-Trent, and was one of England's leading pottery and porcelain mecca’s ( see marking on the underneath). The pitcher is quite early, having been made circa 1855. There is floral decoration to the inside upper lip in addition to the nicely shaped handle. There are no cracks or chips; there is some paint loss to the top rust colored edging.. Gentle age crazing appears through out attesting to it’s nearly 165 year old manufacture; a very nice piece of early English ironstone. Dimensions: 8" high x 6 1/2" deep x 5 3/8" wide. Note: I am a second generation antiques dealer and have been in business for 50 years; I am also a member of several prestigious antique associations. Thus, I am well qualified to inspect and evaluate the products I offer for sale and I guarantee this to be authentic and as I have described.

Victorian Porcelain Spittoon, circa 1880 by Imari, Japan
Located in Incline Village, NV
The mark on the underneath (see image) indicates that this spittoon is of Japanese Imari porcelain, manufactured circa 1880, and made specifically for the American market for the preponderance of bars and saloons at that time. These were popular from 1865 to the turn of the century; this is a particularly fancy and elaborate example. Note the copious and highly detailed and beautiful floral decoration to the inside of the upper portion of the spittoon; pretty fancy for something meant for spit and saliva! Fantastic and all original condition with no cracks, no chips and very bright paint in sharp colors of blue rust and pink, and meticulously painted in a floral pattern. Several of these would have been “stationed” in strategic places within a saloon. This is a wonderful piece of porcelain, and quality item of saloon and Western United States history...

Vintage "Buffalo Pottery" Large Pitcher "Buffalo Hunt" Theme Circa 1912
By Buffalo Pottery
Located in Incline Village, NV
Western United States Native American themed pitcher depicts several Indians on horseback hunting buffalo, thus the name "Buffalo Hunt" stamped on the underneath, along with "Buffalo Pottery" and an image of the buffalo logo in blue (see images). The iconic "Buffalo Pottery Company" became famous for manufacturing pottery for the armed forces and later for national park venues such as Yosemite. The pitcher is completely original with no repairs and no repaints, no chips; it is colored and hand painted in shades of dark to light green with gold "speckled" highlighting; most of the gold is intact (typically wears off}. Labeled "semi-vitreous" underneath indicating post 1910 to 1920 manufacture; embodies a sound and well made piece of pottery that can be used with confidence, or put on display. Nice clean and authentic item for those who collect authentic western artifacts...

Masons Ironstone Jug or Pitcher in rare Cashmire Ptn, William 1Vth Ca 1833
By Mason's Ironstone
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a good, Mason's ironstone hydra jug with a snake handle in the Cashmire De Thibet pattern dating to the William 1Vth English 19th century period, circa 1832-1836 The jug has an octagonal hydra shape with a snake handle. This pattern is not often seen. It is called "Cashmire De Thibet" and is illustrated on page 60 of the book; A Guide To Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns, published by The Mason's Collectors' Club. The jug is unmarked to the base as was sometimes the case, but is definitely by Mason's Ironstone as they were the only manufacturer to produce a jug in this shape with this pattern and dating to the English William 1Vth period circa 1832-1836. Overall a very nice Masons Hydra Jug or Pitcher in a rare pattern. Notes on the pattern. This unusual name of "Cashmire De Thibet" was a name applied circa 1832-1836, to summer scarves...
