About the Item
Copper containers of varying shapes and sizes have been used in Spanish homes and kitchens for many centuries. Copper and its alloys were particularly popular metals for storing and preparing foodstuffs, not only because they were they durable, but because these metals exhibited natural antibacterial properties. With their rounded bottoms making for easy stirring of contents, these containers were most probably used for food preparation, with handles for hanging over a cooking fire. They show marks and tarnish of use, and both have period repairs, evidence that these were valued items to be maintained, and not discarded in the case of a hole or damage. The two are of slightly contrasting colors, but share the exact same design and construction. One has its handle, the other, is without. Beautiful and practical, these containers will bring a touch of history to even the most modern decor scheme.
