About the Item
This elegant 1910s Nippon porcelain dish exemplifies the artistry and refinement of Japanese export porcelain during the early 20th century. Designed in a long, elongated oval form, the piece was intended as a dedicated serving dish for celery or asparagus, a reflection of the formal dining traditions of the Edwardian era, when specialized serving pieces demonstrated both hospitality and sophistication at the table.
The surface is beautifully hand-painted with vibrant red-orange poppies, framed by fine gilt accents and banding. Poppies, a favored motif in Art Nouveau and early 20th century design, symbolized remembrance, beauty, and the fleeting nature of life, making them a poignant and fashionable choice for decorative arts of the period.
This dish is marked “Nippon”, signifying production between 1891 and 1921, when Japanese porcelain was specifically stamped for export to the American market. Nippon porcelain is celebrated for its exceptional craftsmanship, delicate translucence, and richly detailed hand-painted decoration, qualities clearly present in this example.
Condition: Excellent antique condition. No chips or cracks. Minor, age-appropriate wear to some of the gold banding.
A wonderful piece of Edwardian-era dining culture, this dish serves equally well as a collectible, display object, or conversation piece reflecting the beauty and significance of Nippon porcelain.

1930's German Art Deco Porcelain Half Doll
Located in Red Lion, PA
Stunning 1930s German Art Deco Porcelain Half Doll with Rococo Hairstyle
This exquisite 1930s German porcelain half doll captures the refined beauty and timeless glamour of the Art Deco period, paired with the romantic influence of 18th-century Rococo style. Rendered in fine porcelain with exceptional attention to detail, this rare figure is a striking example of German artistry at its peak.
Her delicate features are simply enchanting — bright blue eyes accented by soft blue eyeshadow, rosy cheeks, and vivid red lips, all hand-painted with precision. Her ornate updo evokes the powdered wigs of the 1700s, gathered high with an elegant bow at the back and a tiny tiara perched at the front, nodding to both historic elegance and theatrical flair.
What sets this figure apart is her graceful, outstretched arms, posed in a fluid and balletic gesture, capturing a moment of poised movement. It’s a pose both sculptural and expressive, and one rarely seen in typical half dolls. Her condition is excellent, with no chips, cracks, or signs of repair. Here delicately painted features remain vivid after nearly a century.
