About the Item

We present you this set made of 0.958 silver. Legible assay marks of the Assay Office in Chester on the reverses of the vessels. Thanks to the style of the letters and the shape of the shield, we are able to precisely date these items of the year 1898. The nameplate of the manufacturer with JD WD letters indicates that the set was manufactured by the James Deakin & Sons workshop -- John & William Deakin. This is a 7-piece set that includes salt and pepper shakers, one lockable vessel, and four vessels with removable inserts of cobalt glass, and two tiny teaspoons. The cabaret is preserved in perfect condition: silver without dents, slightly covered with patina. Only one glass insert is broken off, the remaining have chipped edges. Extremely beautiful and rare set -- a true item for connoisseurs. The set includes the original, antique storage box. Historical overview The company was established in 1865 by James Deakin at Sidney Works, Matilda Street, Sheffield. Before 1886, he was joined in partnership by his three sons, William Pitchford, John and Albert, and the name of the company was changed to James Deakin & Sons. In 1888, they opened London offices and showrooms at 48 Holborn Viaduct. Other branches were opened in Glasgow and Belfast. In 1897, the company's name was changed to James Deakin & Sons Ltd.
