About the Item

Mid to late 19th C. English antique copper and tin lined saucepan. A cramp seam, the zig-zag brassy-yellow line running around the base and up the sides of the pot is consistent with the type of hand crafting methods employed in the fabrication of antique copperware. The iron handle has a triangular shaped base plate with copper rivets. The hanging loop on the handle is a keyhole shape with a flat base and rounded top. The handle is of wrought iron and is stamped "5 - 3 1/2". Based on the shape of the handle base plate and hanging loop this is most likely an antique English saucepan. Dimensions: 8.75"dia (pot) 16.25" (with handle) 5.5"h Weight: 4lb 15oz / 2239grams Average Thickness: 2.63mm Condition: Very good. This pot has been professionally polished and retinned by East Coast Tinning. See before and after photographs. As a result, it looks almost as good as new. Provenance: Property from a Litchfield, Connecticut Estate Collection About Copper Cookware: Copper has played an important role in culinary history for centuries. No other metal can be counted on to absorb heat and distribute it as rapidly and evenly as copper. Similarly, when removed from the heat copper responds quickly. As a result of the responsiveness of copper cookware it has been the go-to choice for chefs and cooks all over the world.
