A Flight Barr & Barr Worcester Part Crested Dinner Service Japan Style Pattern, Regency Period, 1815/20, with crest of a unicorn head on ducal coronet, Impressed and printed factory marks, “Manufacturers To Their Majestries and the Prince Regent. Flight Barr & Barr, Proprietors of the Royal Porcelain Works, Worcester, Established 1751.” Largest platter – 22” x 17 ¾”. 3 platters 18” x 12 ½“. 2 Platters 12”. 2 Platters 11”. 14 Side Plates. 8 Soup bowls, 12 Dessert plates. (10 damaged) (42). Minor damages, mostly to the reverse. Full condition report available. History. “Flight and Barr Worcester Porcelain, 1783-1840.” By Henry Sandon. Chapter 5. The End of the Flight and Barr Era., pg.141. Illustration of the same Japan style pattern service design, c.1815-20, with different crests. Pg. 241. Appendix II, Armorial and Crested Services. Under this list 58. Lists “Out of ducal coronet a unicorn’s head argent.” This has no identifying name or motto attached. “Crests of the Families of Great Britain and Ireland.” By Fairbairn. P.377 and Pl. 45, cr. 14 for the crest and Pl. 23, cr. 11 for the coronet. “Perkins - out of a five-leaved coronet, or, a unicorn's head, argent, maned and horned, gold.” Provenance Frederick Perkins (1780-1860), Chipstead Place, Sevenoaks, Kent, owner of the brewing firm Barclay, Perkins of Southwark, and noted book collector George Perkins (1805-1879), his son George Frederick Perkins (1867-1895), grandson of George Perkins Algernon Edward Perkins (1869-1926), his brother George Algernon Perkins (1896-1980), his son Chipstead Place was built 1693, purchased by Frederick Perkins 1828/29 and substantially renovated. The house was sold out of the family circa 1915, and mostly demolished in 1932. In 1935, in a country life article, the wood from the house appears to have been moved to America and used by Mr. John Conyngham in the construction of the living room at Hayfield House, Pennsylvania, now part of Wilkes-Barre, Penn State and currently used as the Community Room. The paneling can still be seen around the door way.
