Cecil J Garland Bristol Wemyss Cabbage Rose Hand Painted Plate

About the Item

A stunning and well hand painted pottery plate, probably Plichta, decorated with the Wemyss Cabbage Rose design by Cecil J Garland and dated 1949. The earthenware plate is of simple rounded shape with a raised edge and standing on a narrow round foot. The plate is finely hand painted with in the Scottish Wemyss Pottery style with cabbage roses in tones of pink on green leafy stems and set within a decorative border painted around the edge of the plate. The plate is signed C.J. Garland NRD to the lower front edge and also signed to the back including Bristol. The plate also has an impressed date mark dating it to 1949. Provenance: acquired in the British Art Market. In excellent condition.
