Danish 19th Century Bing Grøndahl Dinner Service with Greek Key Pattern
About the Item
19th century Orange and Gilt Danish Bing Grøndahl Dinner Service For Twelve
Magnificent Danish Bing and Grøndahl complete dinner service set with tableware serving pieces for a minimum of twelve people. The plates and additional serving pieces are decorated with a bright orange color in a Greek key Meander design framed with gilt gold border and an undertone in a soft rose beige color. The handles and tops are richly decorated with leaves and pumpkin in gilded gold. In all, 41 marvelous serving pieces. The main part of the service is marked with 3 towered B&G which date from around the turn of the 20th century circa 1898. Some of the pieces are marked B&G and date from as early as 1854.
The Bing and Grøndahl design dates 1854 and echoes of a decadent and Bohemian time in Copenhagen. Richly decorated 24 carat gilded leaves and pumpkins with large curves and the chic orange color in a Greek key pattern tells a tale and you can almost hear the sound of the parties that was hold in this fashionable Copenhagen house.
If Versace was inspired by this bold and extravagant Danish design from 1854, it is easy to the similarity. In fashion, the Meander pattern, in particular, relates to Versace. Greek key is one of the most versatile prints working well in every color, as an accent and alongside other patterns.
Each piece is in great vintage condition. Minor wear consistent with age / use.
The B&G service includes:
24 dinner plates (dia 24cm/ 9.44”)
12 soups plates (dia 24cm/ 9.44”)
