Silver-plated decorative plate by Jean Despres
This circular decorative plate or tray is made of silver-plated metal with a design combining contrasting textures, characteristic of the Art Deco style. The central field features a hand-hammered surface, which reflects light irregularly and highlights the handcrafted nature of the piece. The wide rim of the plate has a fine, dense, concentrically oriented crosshatch or striation surface treatment, creating a visual veining effect and contrasting with the smooth, hammered center. In the center of the plate, there is an appliqué containing a monogram of the letters "J" and "D" flanking the silhouette of a glass. The base or bottom of the plate is engraved with the signature "J-Després," identifying the silversmith.
