About the Item

A very fine George III Cream Pail made in London in 1780 by Robert Purton. This pretty piece is modelled as a milk maid's pail, with slightly everted sides. The rim and base are decorated with applied beading, as is the arched handle. The sides are unusually pierced with horizontal blue bell bands and vertical pierced pails. The front is also engraved with an oval prick dot cartouche containing a coronet above a set of contemporary script initials. The Pail is in quite excellent condition and is very well marked on the base. Additional information: Height, to the rim: 2.6 inches, 6.5 cm. Diameter at the rim: 2.9 inches, 7.25 cm.
