About the Item

Hertha Bengtson for Rörstrand Sweden a splendid fruit bowl with an impressive design Ø 35cm ~ height: 5.5cm ~ weight: 2312 grs Hertha Bengtson Bengtson studied at the Konstfack School of Design in Stockholm in the 1940s. She was interested in industrial design and quickly gained a reputation for her creative and functional approach to design. During her studies, she was influenced by the modernist and functionalist movements of the time, which advocated simplicity, utility and aesthetics in the design of objects, and she embraced these principles wholeheartedly. After graduating, Bengtson began working for the renowned Swedish design company Rörstrand. There, she developed a distinctive style by creating innovative designs for ceramics. Her designs were defined by clean shapes and abstract patterns inspired by nature and modern art. His bold designs were instrumental in renewing the aesthetics of Rörstrand products and were a resounding success. Hertha Bengtson also collaborated with other brands and companies throughout her career, including Gustavsberg and Upsala-Ekeby. Her designs have been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, and she has received numerous awards and recognitions for her innovative work. Hertha Bengtson continued to work and create until her retirement in the 1980s. She died in 1993, leaving a lasting legacy in the field of industrial design and ceramics. Her bold and avant-garde approach continues to influence designers today, and her work is still admired for its timeless aesthetic and functional ingenuity. Rörstrand Rörstrand is a Swedish porcelain manufacturer with an incredible history! They've been producing porcelain and ceramics without interruption since 1726. Rörstrand was lucky enough to employ some of the most important and talented designers of Scandinavian porcelain. Let me take you on a journey through the history of this magnificent manufactory! Porcelain mark for Gröna Anna And now for some fascinating facts! The coordinates show this point. The Rörstrand manufactory was founded in 1726 in the village of the same name, now the Stockholm district of Birkastan. In 1873, the enterprising company founded a subsidiary called Arabia in Finland to facilitate trade with Russia. In 1881, Rörstrand made an exciting new addition to their range: feldspar porcelain, which was similar to the original from China. In 1914, Rörstrand made a brilliant move by acquiring Gothenburg's Porslinsfabrik. In 1926, Rörstrand made a bold move to Gothenburg, and the factory in Stockholm was demolished (luckily, the former porcelain dump is preserved as a national monument, and its coordinates point to this very spot!). In 1936, Rörstrand made the exciting move to Lidköping, where it became the company's new headquarters in 1939. In 1963, Rörstrand became part of the Upsala-Ekeby Group, marking an exciting new chapter in the company's history! In 1984, the Finnish group Wärtsilä made a bold move by purchasing Rörstrand, and just three years later, they also acquired Gustavsberg's porcelain factory! In 1990, the Finnish Hackman Group took over and from 2000, the company was called Designor Oy Ab – an exciting new chapter in the company's history! In 2003, Rörstrand became part of Iittala, based in Höganäs (Sweden), which in turn has belonged to Fiskars since 2007 – a fantastic move that has seen the brand flourish! Iittala made the bold decision to move production to Sri Lanka and Hungary at the beginning of 2005, as production in Sweden was only running at a loss. The factory in Lidköping has been transformed into the incredible Rörstrand Center! It boasts a variety of stores and dining options, as well as a fascinating museum that delves into the rich history of Rörstrand. The original factory site in Stockholm is still home to a remarkable porcelain stockpile, a testament to the brand's legacy. This historic dump is even listed as a building of cultural significance!
