Large Antique Brightly Polished Pewter Charger, circa 1750
About the Item
Wonderful highly polished pewter charger. Measures: (22 inches).
Amazing distressed patina
Provenance: Bowood House, Near Bath, Wiltshire, England
English, Mid-18th Century. Most likely, London.
The pewter has been polished to its original shine to imitate polished silver. It was known as the Poor Man's Silver.
The great thing about polished pewter is that it will retain its shine unlike silver which tarnishes. It can be cleaned with soap and water.
