About the Item

From the designer Georges Briard, and from the Butterfly collection, a large square pebbled glass and gold leaf platter, circa 1969. Georges Briard created his Butterfly collection for his 1969 catalogue. The glassware serving pieces are considered Mid-Century Modern and feature a variety of gilded butterflies flying with smaller leaf and celestial motifs colored in gold on a pebbled transparent ground. The platter is molded of bent glass with upturned rims. Georges Briard created award-winning designs for items including glasses, trays, coffeepots and dishes in materials like glass, ceramics, metal, wood, and gold-plated serveware. His serveware was especially popular from the 1950s to ’70s. It was produced by companies including Culver, Pfaltzgraff and Medina Glass and sold at high-end department stores like Neiman Marcus and Bonwit Teller. Briard’s designs were found in the homes of the most fashionable hosts of the mid-century. Today, they are highly prized by collectors. Tray: 14.75 inches Square x 1.5 in. H Showing the Georges Briard signature in gold. In excellent vintage condition.

William Ridgway English Staffordshire Transferware Platter, Flosculous Pattern
By William Ridgway
Located in Philadelphia, PA
A black on white transfer printed floral platter in the Flosculous pattern, William Ridgway & Co., Shelton, Hanley, Staffordshire England, circa 1830-1854. A gently scalloped black-printed platter in an unusual borderless pattern. Alternating floral sprays extend outward — from a three part scroll motif in the center — up the well and onto the rim of the plate. The term ‘flosculous’ means having flowerets or composite-flowered. This stylized pattern feels very modern. 19 in. L x 15.25 in. W x 1.75 in H A printed urn...
