About the Item
An Art Nouveau French Faïence asparagus and artichoke server, Keller & Guerin, Luneville – circa 1890.
A majolica glazed earthenware platter decorated in barbotine with asparagus, artichokes and overlapping leaves in green and purple tones, on a turquoise background.
Very dimensional and beautifully glazed with a thick rolled rim.
The Lunéville factory was established in 1731 and became the royal supplier to the Austrian family in the 18th century. In 1892, Lunéville absorbed Saint-Clément and Keller and Guérin, bringing a new dynamism and creativity with their art nouveau style pieces. At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the demand for artichoke and asparagus plates and serving pieces was very strong and the reputation of Lunéville was well established.
