Exceptional Antique English Davenport Ironstone Hand Painted Imari Decor "Bamboo & Peony" pattern large Covered Vegetable Tureen or Entree Dish in the most spectacular jewel tones. This "Chinoise" pattern is one of the most gorgeous patterns ever seen on English ironstone and Davenport has been making porcelain and ironstone since the late 18th century and has been Royal Warranted for over 200 years. Please note the rich cobalt blue and gilt finial handle on the lid and the decoration which is not only richly on the lid but in the interior of the base of the tureen as well. Spode made these fabulous Greekware platters circa 1810. They are decorated in the neoclassical "Greek" pattern with classical figures and mythological scenes based on ancient Greek and Roman art. The dramatic pattern shows a scene from Olympic history. At the center, Cynisca wins the four-horse chariot race at the Greek Olympic Games in 392 BC.
