Set of Three 19th Century English Black and White Trivets Signed R. Webb & Co
About the Item
This elegant set of three trivets from London was crafted in England, circa 1870. In the set, two are the same size, and one is larger. The porcelain table trivets are round in shape and feature hand painted decor of women in long dresses with the motto: "Justitia Virtutum Regina". (Queen Virtues Justice or justice is the queen of virtues). One trivet is signed on the front: R. Webb & Co., Marylebone, London. The simple, traditional ceramics are in excellent condition with rich black and white patinated glazed finish.
The Worshipful Company of goldsmiths is one of the Great Twelve Livery Companies of the City of London. Its motto is Justitia Virtutum Regina, Latin for Justice is Queen of Virtues. The Goldsmiths' Company founded a London Technical and Recreative Institute in 1891, which is better known nowadays as Goldsmiths, University of London.
