About the Item

William Abdy, English Georgian tray, made in London in 1788, beautifully adorned with a beaded rim and engraved motifs, standing on 4 clawed feet. It measures 22'' from handle to handle (18'' excluding the handle) by 13 1/2'' in depth by 2 1/3'' in height, weighs 58.3 troy ounces, and bears hallmarks as shown. William Abdy was a London-based silversmith, active between 1752 and 1790. His son, William Abdy II, entered his first mark in 1790 shortly after his father’s death. Silver pieces by William Abdy and his son William Abdy II are present in the collection of prestigious museums, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
