Antique Danish Rococo Style Porcelain Centrepiece by Royal Copenhagen

About the Item

Antique Danish Rococo style porcelain centrepiece by Royal Copenhagen Danish, mid 19th century Dimensions: Height 44cm, width 19cm, depth 17cm This vibrant porcelain centrepiece is modelled with the top as a coral coloured shell, within which a figure reclines on a grassy bed, his arm leaning on a vase. The other arm holds a trident, perhaps indicating he is a representation of Poseidon. The shell is supported by a green shaft with river reeds and long grassy pieces springing from a rocky base. Two figures hide within the grass, peering upwards towards the water god. The centrepiece was made by Royal Copenhagen (Danish, founded 1775) in the mid-19th century, a renowned international producer of porcelain wares. The base is marked for Royal Copenhagen to the underside.
