Art Nouveau Set Vases Enameled Amphora Porcelain Riessner Stellenmacher, 1900
Unique set of 2 porcelain vases, stunning design, raised enameled porcelain with gilded accents. Beautiful floral decoration. The color of the two vases shows some difference as proof of handcraft coloring, enameling and gilding. The size of both is equally, 11.8 inches (30 cm.) They rarely come as a set, also this shape is very rare. Please look close to the pictures for beautiful details. Even the bottom has been decorated. In 1892 Alfred Stellmacher had been a leader in ceramics production. He encouraged his son and sons-in-law to establish a porcelain manufactory. The first Amphora manufacturer was called Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel or The Amphora Porcelain Works. The firm consistently marked pieces with the word Amphora and became known by that name. They used a variety of marks with the word Amphora, a red ‘R.St.K’ mark, or the initials ‘RS&K’. Combining unusual shapes with striking glazes, this company was recognized as the best in Amphora. The works were signed ‘Made in Austria’. At the Paris World Exhibition in 1889, Stellmacher received the Gold Medal, and he attained his greatest success at the end of the 19th century. Amphora’s goal was to create luxury porcelain objects. A collection from the company received the highest award at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago and in the same year received the Gold Medal at the San Francisco Exhibition. This led to increased sales in the U.S. and by 1894 Amphora opened a second factory that produced terracotta items. Amphora sales grew in Europe and England as well. In 1895, they opened a third factory which produced faience, decorated earthenware vases, jars, and earthenware figurines and vases with animals. Starting in the late 1890s the Art Nouveau style was evident in the designs of Eduard Stellmacher and Paul Dachsel. Amphora collections received countless awards from 1893 through 1904. So a very rich history for these beautiful iconic vases. Iconic in the way of material, decoration and not the least, the shape of the vases. Please look carefully to the details. These vases are handcrafted, so they do differ slightly in color. But overall a beautiful rare set vases. Connaisseurs will certify Provenance, age, condition and authenticity in an official appraisal by an independent appraiser, to the buyer.
