Rare/ desirable colors, such as citrine, caramel, midnight blue, royal blue, chocolate brown, kelly green, cranberry, black, white and more. The husband and wife team of Lucille (aka "Luke") and Rolland Lietzke produced a strikingly original body of ceramic ware during the middle decades of the 20th century. The Lietzkes sought to produce a variety of tableware porcelains with the clean lines and thin elegant walls of the finest bone china. To this end the couple developed a slip molding technique by which they injected slip of precise consistency into carefully crafted molds yielding razor thin bodies. They glazed these wares with a host of traditional and non-traditional hues ranging from bright glossy yellows and greens to earthy tones and dusty charcoal blacks and blues. Stylistically and technically the Lietzke Porcelains bridge the gap between production pottery and art pottery in an attention to highly refined vessel shape, artful combinations of interior and exterior glazing, and in some cases, textural surface treatments such as sgraffito. Lietzke ware has strong affinities with other 1950s, 1960s and 1970s ceramic artists including Eva Zeisel and Russel Wright. The Lietzkes also produced a substantial body of art pottery--both thrown and hand-built slab vessels. Apart from her cooperative work with Rolland, Luke Lietzke worked as an interior designer and created interesting pieces of clay jewelry which she signed with her first name. Luke and Rolland Lietzke lived and worked in Mogadore, Ohio where, in addition to their pottery vessels, they created ceramic accessories and architectural pieces including mosaic murals, fountains, ceramic walls, garden lighting units and ceramic furniture. Both artists were mentioned regularly in Ceramics Monthly and Craft Horizons magazines throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
