This elegant plate is part of the La Menagerie, a collection of six pieces with six distinctive designs, each belonging to a different animal. Elegantly rendering a taste of what the private reserve of animals of the Sultan in Constantinople would have looked like, this series will enrich any occasion, adding a superb touch to both a classic and a contemporary decor. In this case, an elegant peacock strolls in a black and white-painted forest with its vividly-colored features contrasting with the monochromatic quality of the background.
An exquisitely rendered image of bees is depicted on this refined porcelain plate of the Ottoman Menagerie series, inspired by real private reserves of animals at the Sultan's palaces and gardens. Three honey bees take center stage in this plate, their delicate wings and bodies masterfully rendered so as to appear fluttering off the plate. The bees stand out against the background with faded terracotta-colored flowers. Combined with the other pieces of this series, this plate will create a sophisticated look for a formal table on special occasions.
