The pair consists of two vases with a classic rounded shape; they are richly decorated with elaborate floral and figurative designs in cobalt-blue under glass on a white background; they are provided with highly decorated lids; the figures represented are those of dogs, animals full of symbolism and portrayed in different poses; in China are called shi, which means "lion" or shishi, which means "stone lion". They resemble both the Chow Chow breed and the Shih Tzu breed, from which they are called "Fo dogs". They are also called Chinese lions, guardian dogs, or temple stone dogs. The Dog occupies the 11th position in the Chinese zodiac. 2018 was the Chinese year of the Dog, as well as 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, and 2006, and the next will be in 2030. People born under the sign of the Dog are loyal and honest, lovable and kind, but also cautious and prudent. They were created between 1980 and 1985, therefore long after the Xinhai Revolution that marked the end of China's bimillenary imperial history and the birth of modern China. Despite the era, the techniques used to make the two vases are the same as those used for handicraft production during the Qing Dynasty, and even in modern times owning Chinese porcelain was a source of great pride for the people of China itself, but also in the rest of the world. The two vases are exceptional from the aesthetic point of view, true works of art, the contrast between blue and white that characterizes them is simply wonderful, their slender shape is so elegant and full of charm.
