Royal Worchester Reticulated Two Handle Vase by George Owen

About the Item

A fine quality late 19th Century Royal Worcester reticulated porcelain two handled vase with gilded decoration. Signed to the base. GEORGE OWEN’S PIERCED PORCELAINS The ceramic work of English potter George Owen (1845-1912), who refined the output of reticulated doubled-walled vessels at the Royal Worcester Manufactory, is often viewed with mystery. Taking months to complete, the outer wall of the vessels Owen produced were carefully pierced to create an intricate net-like, honeycomb effect on the external body. Working with the constant risk of failure, his painstaking work resulted in delicate ceramic vessels which were extremely popular among buyers. His techniques were considered a trade secret, with Owen himself placing an extreme confidentiality on his work.
