About the Item

A tall and shapely antique walnut oil jug, originating from the Dordogne region of France, fully glazed in a rich and glossy golden brown, and further embellished with multiple applied and pinched vertical bands. This elegant 18th century pot would originally have been used to store nut oils or keep drinking water pleasantly cool, and would have seen long years of service in a French country kitchen. Unsurprisingly then, it has not reached the 21st century unscathed, with part of its pouring spout missing in action. However, this is an extremely attractive vintage jug, with barely a mark or chip to its original glaze, and despite its flaw, it would make a truly magnificent display piece, or a unique vase for fresh flowers.
