Antique Majolica Plate with Bird, French Early 19th C

About the Item

This is an early Majolica pottery Plate with a bird perched in the branches of a climbing plant. We date this plate to the early 19th Century, probably French. The plate is hand potted on a low foot with an incised edge to the rim and a soft light beige glaze. The decoration shows a moulded bird in relief, perched on the branch of a climbing plant with berries, also in relief moulded form. It is all hand painted in bold enamels of many colours including red, yellow, brown, aubergine, blue and green. The plate is impressed to the base with the upper case AD but we have been unable to attribute this piece to a particular pottery.
