About George Jones: "George Jones was born in 1823, working as an apprentice in the Minton factory during the 1830's. From 1844 to 1862 he worked as an independent pottery wholesaler and in 1862, he opened his first pottery, initially producing cream ware and toilet items. A fire in early 1866 destroyed this pottery and Jones rebuilt and created a larger pottery called the" Trent pottery", where he started making majolica products, in direct competition with Minton and Wedgwood. By 1870 the majolica produced by Jones soon developed a reputation for quality and is fully recognised today where it is highly collected. George Jones was awarded a medal at the Paris Exhibition of 1867. Majolica is a type of pottery that is characterized by its brightly colored glazes and highly detailed molded designs.
