About the Item

Fratelli Fanciullacci The brothers Fanciullacci was prolific Italian pottery, who’s work is starting to become more widely known in the past few years, and is keenly sought amongst collectors. As a style it is hard to pin down as there were so many styles and produced – on a variety of clay bodies. Also, because most records were lost it is hard to identify designers or artist – except it is known that Aldo Londi worked there prior to going to Bitossi. Pieces from the FF factory were rarely marked – except for some pieces simply marked FF. Most though will have nothing or simply “Italy” and a number. After a while however, with experience, pieces by this maker start to stand out from the rest. La manifattura ceramica "Ceramiche Artistiche F.lli Fanciullacci" viene fondata a Montelupo Fiorentino da Raffaello Fanciullacci (1803-1881), nel 1862 con la denominazione di "Fornace Bardi Capraia". A lui succede Demetrio (1841-1895), con la collaborazione dei figli Ilario, Giovanni, Amedeo e Alfredo, che dirige la fabbrica fino al 1895 anno in cui, a causa della sua morte, la ditta passa nelle mani dei figli, che in breve rilanciano l'antica tradizione ceramica della città valdarnese. Specializzata in stoviglieria ma impegnata anche nella realizzazione di ceramiche artistiche nel 1914 il catalogo della ditta presentava quasi 1.000 modeli diversi. Negli anni Venti la fabbrica, che impiega circa settanta persone che realizzano una produzione ispirata all'antico, si apre alle istanze moderniste grazie ad alcuni artisti come Vincenzo Ossani, Lorenzo e Giovacchino Canneri, Dino e Mario Scappini, Bruno Bagnoli e Benvenuto Staderini. Tra i maestri ceramisti attivi presso la manifattura si ricordano, tra gli altri, il montelupino Aldo Londi, che giovanissimo presta la sua opera nella fabbrica dei Fanciullacci fino al 1935, il torniante Bruno Cini, che lavora presso la manifattura trentacinque anni e il capo modellatore Giovanni Dolfi, formatosi come giovanissimo apprendista presso la manifattura e di questa collaboratore fino al 1952. Negli anni del secondo dopoguerra la manifattura, che ha sede in viale Umberto a Montelupo Fiorentino, in provincia di Firenze, rinnova nuovamente la sua produzione artistica realizzando lavori di ispirazione primitivista e nel 1946 rileva i laboratori della ditta "Mannozzi" di Montopoli in Val D'Arno Durante l'alluvione che colpisce Firenze nel 1966 la fabbrica subisce gravi danni e, dopo una sosta forzata, non riesce più a riconquistare i suoi spazi di mercato. La produzione cessa definitivamente nel 1988 Alcuni lavori della manifattura sono oggi conservati al Museo della Ceramica di Faenza.
