About the Item
Fine George III Creamware Tankard with Enameled Decoration,
English, Circa 1800
A finely potted example of late 18th-century English creamware, this tankard exhibits a clean, cylindrical form with a lustrous glaze. Its striking decoration consists of three broad, concentric bands created through engine-turning. These bands are defined by parallel, blue-enameled molded ridges. Within this framework, a series of cream-colored circlets—reserved from the earthenware body—are precisely arranged on a field of rich, iron-red ochre. Each circlet is further detailed with a central blue oculus. The piece is completed with a large, well-proportioned C-form handle, terminating at the top and bottom with ornate, molded foliate motifs.
