John Jelfs Cotswold Studio Pottery Salt Glazed Lidded Vessel
About the Item
An impressive and stylish studio pottery lidded vessel decorated in brown salt glazes by renowned British potter John Jelfs (British, b.1946) and made at the Cotswold Pottery and believed to date from the 20th century. The jar shaped vessel is hand thrown standing on a wide flat unglazed base graduating to the in sections to a raised narrow round opening with a recessed cover with a loop handle. The upper edge is applied with two simple decorative raised rings to either side and the vessel is decorated in tan, brown salt glazed with darker brown glazes applied to the inside. The vessel has an impressed JJ artist seal mark to the base.
This stylish piece came as part of a large private collection of studio pottery, carefully selected and from renowned makers.
Provenance: acquired in the British Art Market.
