Mocha pottery banded engine-turned Pearlware tankard, circa 1820 The unusually decorated engine turned mocha pottery tankard with a series of five bands around the center in brown and ochre with a rouletted band above and below in green. The central bands have then had engine-turned stripes cut into a series of X's encircling the tankard. Been rouletted to create a series of X-design cut into the body revealing the cream colored body below. The terminals of the handle with a leaf design. Dimensions: 5 3/4 inches high x 6 across the handle x 4 1/4 inch diameter.  Provenance: DH & SE Miller Collection #87; Jonathan Rickard Collection. With Gerald Blum antiques. Possibly an impressed mark but obscured. See: "Mocha and related dipped wares, 1770-1939", Jonathan Rickard, Page 111, Figure 158, for a creamware mug similarly decorated with engine-turned vertical stripes cut through several bands of color.
