Palissy Ware Majolica Pottery Trompe L'oeil Charger by Christine Viennet

About the Item

Palissy Ware Majolica Trompe L'oeil Charger by Christine Viennet, Dated 1961, France. A substantial revivalist Palissy majolica trompe l'oeil charger by the esteemed artist Christine Viennet, dated 1961. This impressive piece showcases a highly detailed, three-dimensional composition featuring newts or lizards amidst large, textured leaves, accented by vibrant blue dragonflies and an assortment of seashells.   The reverse of the charger bears the artist's incised signature and the date '1961'.   Dimensions: 23 3/4 inches (width) x 17 1/2 inches (depth) x 3 inches (height). Condition: Good condition with the tips of the tails of the dragonflies invisibly repaired. Christine Viennet received her artistic training at the Oslo School of Art and subsequently served apprenticeships under Norwegian artists Rolf Hansen and Bente von Krogh. Her artistic development further progressed through a period of collaboration with Father Paoli at the Abbey of Saint Michel de Cuxa, as well as her involvement with the ateliers of Lurçat and Picart Le Doux in Perpignan, France, between 1965 and 1971.   Viennet's oeuvre is deeply rooted in the tradition of Bernard Palissy, the renowned Renaissance ceramist celebrated for his colorful trompe l’oeil creations. 1 Nature serves as a primary source of inspiration for Viennet, and in 2008, her artistic exploration expanded to encompass oceanic motifs.
