About the Item
This group of 5 antique Majolica plates are an excellent example of Scottish Majolica. This company named Alloa was purchased by the Bailey Company in 1856. 4 of the 5 plates are marked 'Manufactured on the Estate of the Earl of Mar of Kellie' 'W&J A Bailey Alloa'. These plates have a rich brown background with a green leaf and cobalt berries. The colors are still very vibrant because the glazes contain lead.
