An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver christening mug in the form of a barrel, made by George Adams; an addition to our silver christening gifts collection This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver christening mug has been realistically modelled in the form of a barrel. The body of this impressive antique christening mug is embellished with two broad bands of tooled and wigglework decoration replicating the details of the bilge and quarter hoops, in addition to vertical markings reproducing the individual staves. The decoration to the mug incorporates a vacant circular cartouche to the anterior surface. The mug is fitted with a large plain faceted opposing scroll handle accented with an incurved thumb piece. This exceptional mug retains the original gilded interior. The underside of the mug bears the retailer's mark 'Wordlet & Co, Liverpool'. This exceptional example of christening silverware was crafted by the renowned London silversmith George William Adams of Chawner & Co. Condition: This antique christening mug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the mug are all very clear; the second portion of the maker's has some wear but remains legible. Dimensions: Length from back of handle to rim 10 cm/3.9". Diameter of body 6.2 cm/2.4". Height 7.6 cm/3". Weight 5.1 troy ounces/160g. Maker: Chawner & Co (George William Adams.) Date: 1873. Origin: London, England.
