About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique George IV English sterling silver gilt fiddle thread and drop pattern ice cream servers; an addition to our silver flatware collection This exceptional pair of antique George IV English sterling silver gilt ice cream servers have been crafted in the fiddle thread and drop pattern. The anterior surface of each spoon stem and handle is encompassed with thread decoration. The anterior terminals are further embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest of a spur erect between two wings, encompassed with the motto 'Tria juncta in uno' - Three joined in one. The heraldic markings are further ornamented with a helm to the apex and the motto 'Ich dien' - I serve flanking a medal to the nadir*. The reverse of these antique silver ice cream servers / serving spoons feature further thread decoration in addition to pendant drop ornamentations to the heels and above the pips to the handle terminals. Each spoon retains the original gilding. This exceptional pair of serving spoons has been crafted in a rare pattern to locate; completing a full service would be almost impossible. * It can be determined that this badge has correlation to the military order Knights of Bath, whilst the badge does not resemble the classic sceptre, rose, thistle and royal crown symbolism, there was an observed custom was each knight receiving a golden spur. The motto around the spur alludes to the three cardinal virtues: faith, hope and charity. Condition These antique silver ice cream servers are a very good gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition. The original gilding bears some surface marks and has wear in keeping with age. Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of each handle are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the very good gauge of silver. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these examples of antique silverware.
