Emil Milan Segmented Dish in Cherry

About

Finely carved, freeform segmented dish in cherry wood, created circa 1960s, by esteemed midcentury woodworker Emil Milan (1922-85). Trained at the Arts Students League of New York, Milan worked in the metropolitan New York area until relocating to rural Pennsylvania in 1961. He is the subject of a recently published monograph. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian, Renwick Gallery, Yale Art Gallery, and the Museum of Art and Design. The present work is signed "Emilan/cherry" underneath.
