The term "Jugendstil" (Art Nouveau) dates back to the illustrated cultural journal Jugend founded by Hirth at the end of 1895 in Munich, and can be understood as a countermovement of young artists and artisans to backward-looking historicism, but also to the soulless understanding of industrialization.
