Jugendstil Pewter Pitcher, Germany, Early 1900

About the Item

Jugendstil Pewter pitcher is an original decorative object realized in the first years of the 20th century. Original pewter with braided wood handle. Made in Germany. Good conditions: slightly signs of age. Art Nouveau metal object with a domed body and a laced neck with a flared mouth. There is a ducted end with a short tube spout and lid. The handle is curved and is realized with a braided decorated light wood strips. The term "Jugendstil" (Art Nouveau) dates back to the illustrated cultural journal Jugend founded by Hirth at the end of 1895 in Munich, and can be understood as a countermovement of young artists and artisans to backward-looking historicism, but also to the soulless understanding of industrialization. The focus is on new materials, such as concrete or iron, and new construction methods.
