About the Item

A Danish salad bowl, made by Herbert Krenchel for Torben Ørskov – Krenit of Denmark, circa 1960s. The enamel on steel salad bowl was originally designed by Herbert Krenchel for Krenit Denmark in 1953 and produced until 1966. Krenchel was a Danish material researcher and designer who developed a very thin metal salad bowl with a durable colored enamel interior and a matte black exterior. Krenchel’s pieces are an excellent example of iconic, quality Mid-Century Danish design. In 1954 the Krenit bowl won a golden medal at La Trienale in Milan. Krenit pieces have been displayed in museums all over the world, a perfect interplay between function and aestheticism. The interior is in a light jade green enamel, contrasting beautifully with the matte black exterior. 9.75 inches at the top diameter x 5.5 inches high, tapering down to a 3.25 inch base. Marked: Krenit, Denmark with the logo on the bottom. Very light fritting to the upper rim, the black finish shows minor dark areas consistent to the age and use of Krenit bowls.
