This tray and glasses set is a real HOOT!!!!! That’s right!! Take another look at these six Fabulous Mid-Century Modern Culver Tom Collins glasses featuring gold embossed owls and ring around the rims (2 of the 6 glasses have the Culver signature) AND a Curoc black tray with a wooden owl inlay perched upon a wonderful brass or gold branch staring deep into your soul with its gold or brass-colored eyes while the rhinestone stars glimmer in the night sky background! All of the details are inlaid, and it is AWESOME!! Also, the tray is made of a special black phenolic resin developed by Guthrie Courvoisier and his wife, Moira Wallace. It is impervious to alcohol, alkalis, acids, boiling water, and cigarette burns. Making it perfect for use as a cocktail or beverage tray. This one will be fabulous used with these Culver gold embossed owl Tom Collins glasses in your bar area, kitchen, dry bar, or dining room. Or maybe just display them all on a buffet or shelf!
Culver Glass Company created lavish and opulent cocktail ware from 1939 when founded by Irving Rothenberg through 1996 when they were sold to Moderne Glass Company, Inc; but it is their designs from the 1950s through the 1960s that have become highly collectable and for which they have become most renowned.
Couroc of Monterey was founded by Guthrie Courvoisier in 1948 in…, of course, Monterey, California. They produced resin trays and other serving pieces. Their primary material used was a proprietary formula of phenolic resin Guthrie developed with the help of his wife, Moira Wallace, and named Couroc. Which is an amalgamation of Courvoisier and rock. Implying that Couroc is hard as rock. Moira, as an artist, oversaw design. She gathered together a group of like artists to help her creations come to life. They operated in a somewhat commune situation in the early years using “found” items such as paperclips and springs along with shells and other items they beachcombed to make the amazing inlays. Their resin went through experimentation and changes before the end result, which is alcohol proof and impervious to alkalis, acids, boiling water and even cigarette burns. Their products were sold in up-scale retail businesses and remained popular through the 1970s. In the 1980s they began to struggle and were out of business in 1998 after 50 years.
As Couroc once advertised “Any tray can serve a drink. Only Couroc can start a conversation.” Start conversations in your home with your friends and family. WHOOOOOO wouldn’t love them?? Make these Culver glasses and Curoc tray yours!!!
