A mustard pot

About the Item

This charming little mustard pot was made in Dublin 1800. The mustard pot is decorated with engraved swags and a pierced silver body, allowing the unique blue glass interior to show through. On the domed lid, a lion crest is engraved. Clearly marked on the bottom of the pot for Dublin 1800, unattributed.

A 5 dish epergne by The Alexander Clark Company London. Formed with 5 removable pierced dishes, the circular foot raised on four feet, the frame and branches decorated throughout with elaborate pierced work and with scrolling branches. The business was established in 1891 by Clift Alexander Mawer Clark at 138 Fenchurch Street, London. Manufacturing premises were opened in 1894 at 29 Market Place, Oxford Street. In 1900 the firm was active at Welbeck Works, Randall Street, Sheffield, transferring its activity to James Street Works, St. Paul's, Birmingham, in 1918. The firm was active also at 29 Market Place, London (1894-1910), 188 Oxford Street, London (1900-1915), 125-126 Fernchurch Street, London (1909-1918), 38-40 Mitre Street, Aldgate, London (1921), 17 Sycamore Street, Sheffield (1921) and 38 Leadenhall Street, London (1941). The partners were C.A.M. Clark, Louis Vernon Clark, Robert Fead Mosley and Robert Frederick Mosley (of R.F. Mosley & Co Ltd). The firm was converted in 1912 into a limited liability company under the style of the Alexander Clark Co Ltd. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English Britannia standard silver mustard pot; part of our Britannia silverware collection. This exceptional antique George V Britannia standard* silver mustard pot has a rounded octagonal panelled form to a pedestal spreading foot. The incurved panelled surface of this silver mustard pot is plain and unembellished, with an applied border to the upper rim. This fine Britannia silver mustard pot retains the original hallmarked domed hinged cover surmounted with a tiered circular urn style thumbpiece. The pedestal foot of the mustard pot has a plain stepped form to a collet style rim. This impressive example of antique silverware is supplied with an associated hallmarked sterling silver spoon crafted by William Eley I & William Fearn in 1816. This exceptional mustard pot is the finest example of its type you could hope to acquire. * Britannia Silver - The Britannia silver standard of 958 (95.84% of fine silver), denoted by the icon of the seated Britannia holding an oval shield, was introduced by William III in 1697. This was to indicate the slightly higher standard of silver from sterling silver standard of 925 (92.5% of fine silver). Condition This antique silver mustard pot is a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the body and part hallmarks to the surface of the cover are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the superior gauge of silver.
