Pair of Bronze and Yellow Siena Marble Risers, Italy First Quarter 19thsec
About the Item
Pair of risers in burnished bronze and yellow Siena marble, Italy first quarter 19th century. Oval marble plinth base, embellished with shell and beaded friezes at the bottom and a pair of festoons composed of leaves, lake reeds, and four valves arranged in a rosette pattern, one of which is partly missing. Upper section basement with bronze plaque simulating sea ripples, from which rises an all-round sculpture of a bicaudate winged mermaid, characterized by a "crown" of seaweed and raised arms, the latter holding a large shell with a segmented profile placed on top. One of the bronzes surrounding the plinth is partially missing.
