About the Item

This exceptional Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory dinner service, crafted in the renowned Flora Danica pattern, is regarded as one of the most prestigious and stunning porcelain patterns ever created. Comprised of some of the most beautifully crafted porcelain in the world, this magnificent 86-piece service for 12 is adorned with intricately hand-painted flowering plants and fruit, and includes rare pieces created in this highly desirable pattern, such as a covered ginger jar and candlesticks. A work of scientific examination as well as artistic mastery, the designs are culled from George Christian Oeder’s 1771 publication Flora Danica (Flowers of Denmark), an encyclopedia including 3,000 hand-colored copper plate prints depicting every wild plant known to exist in Denmark, including mosses, fungi, ferns and flowers. Each piece features delicate, lace-like carvings, 24-carat gold accents and rich, hand-painted botanical motifs, reflecting the meticulous and refined artistic skill required to produce such an exemplary dinner service. In addition, the underside of each piece is labeled with the Latin name of the flower depicted in the design. One of the most original and inspired products of the European art industry from the golden age of porcelain, Flora Danica is one of the last luxury services still in production after more than 200 years.
