About the Item
Exceptional pair of Agave Collection serving utensils by Emilia Castillo, one of Mexico’s most celebrated contemporary silversmiths. Each piece is masterfully handcrafted in solid brass with silver-plated finish, featuring agave rope handles bound with malachite inlaid silver rings. The large, hammered silver-plated bowls—one pierced with a stylized agave motif—reflect Castillo’s ability to merge organic inspiration with bold, sculptural design, making these both functional and decorative works of art.
Hallmarked and hand-signed Emilia Castillo, Mexico, M.R., Plateado, TO-85, these utensils embody the artisanal excellence of the Castillo family tradition.
Emilia Castillo is the daughter of Antonio Castillo, one of the founders of the legendary Los Castillo workshop in Taxco, Mexico. The Castillo brothers, together with master designer William Spratling, revolutionized 20th-century Mexican silver by blending indigenous motifs, modernist influences, and fine craftsmanship. Emilia has carried this legacy into the modern era, expanding the vocabulary of Taxco silver by incorporating natural elements, mixed metals, and stone inlay into her designs.
Measurements:
15 in. long x 4 in. wide x 0.5 in. high
For collectors of Mexican silver, decorative arts, and 20th/21st century design, this set represents the direct continuation of a historic lineage that shaped the global appreciation of Taxco silver. For interior designers, the sculptural presence, malachite details, and organic textures of these utensils make them ideal as display pieces in luxury dining settings, curated kitchens, or collector’s showcases.
A rare opportunity to acquire an iconic example of Emilia Castillo’s modern Mexican design, firmly rooted in the Los Castillo / Spratling legacy yet boldly contemporary in its execution.
