About the Item
A large (101 place and serving pieces) and fine set of circa 1951 sterling silver flatware in the Contour pattern by Towle of Neeburyport, MA. Contour was introduced in 1951. Contour has a soft and flowing appearance, it has a play of concave and convex surfaces. The objective of ornament is achieved by the modeling of the basic form. (See 'Modernism in American Silver - 20th Century Design' by Jewel Stern). The pattern was designed by John Van Koert (1912-1998). Weight 190 oz. Marked as illustrated below.
